Coffee 7.5/10 Takapuna Beach Café was a much needed addition to the North Shore Café scene. It is one of the best locations in greater Auckland with views down the length of Takapuna Beach and across to Rangitoto Island. Their coffee is not quite as good as the view but it’s still pretty good and very consistent. They are another café that use the ever popular Allpress beans. What’s impressive about their barista is he pumps out a serious amount of coffee but the consistancy is always good.
Food 9/10 The food at Takapuna Beach Café is really really good. They have a great menu which is way above standard café food, is always really well cooked, has great variety and is always beautifully presented. They have some yummy sweets which are quite different to the normal café fare you might expect. On top of that they have the ‘store’ which you get to through a different door but which is still part of the café. The store has some other sweets and different bits and pieces but the real dealer clincher is the ice cream and gelato they sell from the store. It is quite expensive but honestly, worth every cent. Our favourite is the tiramisu.
Service 8.5/10 The service is nearly as good as their food. The wait staff are always well groomed, very welcoming and attentive. They are clearly well trained and led. And for a café that is always very busy they always seem to more than enough staff on to ensure their standards remain high.
Location 9.5/10 What can we say? We believe the location has to be the best in Metro Auckland. Nowhere else are you that close to the beach, with unobstructed views across the harbour. The only downside is parking can be at a premium.
Kid Friendly 7/10 We have had the kids with us on a number of occasions when eating in. We would recommend that you try and grab a seat outside where there is plenty of room for a push chair and the kids to move about. It can be a bit of a squeeze inside with young kids and push chairs. They will do kids size portions of the adults menu as well!
Overall 8.5/10 Consistently good coffee, combined with great food, service, and the extras that come out of the ‘store’ like the quality fish and chips, all add up to the Takapuna Beach Café being one of the best overall cafes in Auckland. It is definitely somewhere you would travel to have the experience. If someone from the Auckland City side of the bridge was looking for something a bit different that could include a walk along the beach or simply sitting and watching the boats coming and going from the Takapuna boat ramp then this is the place. |
